wow! the French language exists!
OP will have their mind explode looking at other languages and how they sound for pronouncing Spongebob character names
Man, I speak French and hearing kids say “Bob L’éponge” still sounds weird as fuck growing up with SpongeBob.
I love how it’s the “-que” which has the very french spelling, but it was probably the “r” that contained the heavy french accent.
I grew up with all French comics and cartoons, and it’s so weird watching native englishers call like Tintin’s dog “Snowy” or call Tintin “Tintin” for that matter.
This you?

I’ll do you one better, in German it’s “Tim” and “Struppi” (akin to “struppig”: ragged or unkempt).
Is Tintin not called Tintin??? I am a bit confused about the latter
Tinntinn vs Ti~ti~
So long i or what? I don’t really ubderstand your answer
In French it’d be closed to Tonton / Tantan but almost don’t pronounce the n’s.
It sounds kind of like we pronounce sntntn. French spelling is odd
I just guess it’s about French pronunciation. The tin is pronounced with a nasal long open vowel instead of a clear n.
PS you can go to french Wikipedia entry for Tintin and listen to it.
I could not find it on the wikipedia but I did find other options to listen to it. It does not sound like whatever you wrote earlier. The i is nowhere to be found but the n is really there, just as you said unclear.
In Danish the dog’s called “Terry” (probably because the translator considered that a cute name for a terrier) and has his profession (🤔) listed as “Astronaut, seaman” on Danish Wikipedia 😄
Huh… I’ve always thought tintin a the name of a dog but I guess that’s rin tin tin and that those are two competly unrelated things. TIL
Are they a female dog in the French version? Or just have a feminine name?
Edit: I asked my Belgian friend, he’s male
Terry is a gender neutral name
It’s Milou in French, no?
I might be in the wrong thread
It is
You know what they call a Krabby Patty in Paris?
Un royal avec du fromage
Royal avec du fromage! What do they call a Whopper?
Its still called a whopper but its pronounced “wah-pay” 🤣🤣🤣 (silly joke)
I dunno, I didnt go to burger king!
Un crap paté?
Close enough! It’s “pâté de crabe”!
It’s interesting how (for me, at least) “krabby patty” never evoked the idea that Mr Krabs is a cannibal, but somehow the phrase “pâté de crabe” makes that idea inescapable.
It took me embarrassingly long to get this, I thought it was a joke about a mom’s affair partner out in public
“No, this is–” damn, I guess that doesn’t work here 🤔
Sir, this is the Chum Bucket.
Non, ceci n’est pas une pipe.
Ceci n’est pas un Patrique
Non, c’est … Yeah, you’re right.
Oh!..I get it now, Patrick the starfish
Star fish, startrek, patrick it’s all connected
Professor X
Thought is was going to ba about “a fuck” (un phoque)
Our French books in high school got new editions just to remove that word. Ridiculous.
- Do you know what it is?
- No
