I mean… you can still beat someone up, if that helps…

And if you need a bargain, once they’re on the ground you can take their phone

EDIT: Ok, I’ll admit it… this sounds bad. But hear me out. What if we had just one day every year when it’s acceptable to do something like this?

Yes, let’s glorify past rampant consumerism over current rampant consumerism. Absolutely brilliant.

Back before I knew Amazon was cartoon supervillain evil, I caught a lightning deal on black friday for an Xbox 360 for like $50, at a time when you couldn’t get one at all. After that every black friday deal has paled in comparison, so I just don’t leave the house or buy anything online that whole weekend.

Things are so bad that the expression isn’t even “we used to be a proper country” anymore. It’s now “we used to be a country.”

Is that the Kohl’s pricing method? My local store seems to be doing it wrong. They are selling for double the double.

Price trackers are great for this because you can see when they jacked it up a month or two prior so they can bring it down as a black friday sale.

I work on the corporate side of retail and it makes me so frustrated that so many people fall for this bullshit. Most companies are planning these sales a year in advance and making cheaper versions of their product to sell thousands of units. People buying the bullshit year after year just encourages company’s to be shitty.

It’s illegal in the US, too, but no one is actually getting punished, and there are ways around it (you just have to mark it up for long enough).

That would make it 9% off

In order to cancel out, they first need to mark it up 43% before marking it down 30%

And it’s a special model made specifically out of the cheapest parts for black Friday.

Thinking more about it, it wouldn’t surprise me if that was one of the earlier steps in the enshitification process, followed by a “wait, we don’t have to use final sale arguments to fend off the customers that realized it was junk when they brought it home because so few even notice and think the only important features on a TV are size and maybe resolution”, followed by a “what else can we cheap out on?”.

What if they mark it up earlier than 2 weeks and make you thing that is the new normal price, then Black Friday the markup out of the price?

yea black friday pricing havent been worth it since pre-pandemic. around that time they started increasing the price of product about 2-3 times about a month or two prior that way they can show a “30% off” deal, that way you can spend 270% of the price instead of 100% of the price.

Then they used the lack of event sales as the excuse of why it isn’t worth doing decent black friday deals because shocker, as it turns out if someone is buying a high ticket item, chances are they have done the research and have been wanting it, so therefore than can see the TV worth 200$ being sold at 300$ at a 30% off is just a pure scam.

It’s also the reasoning that many retailers sell specific event merchandise using its own UPC. They don’t want the consumer being able to do the research to see they are being ripped off.

The deals were never good, you just have the Internet now so it’s easier to spot the scam.
