Privacy@lemmy.ml•How can I avoid proprietary software on school & company computers?
3·15 days agoBring a USB with a bootable Linux distro on it.
This issue and its solution will be the same as with any other app notifications.
Yes. You will find a lot of randos saying no, but the consensus among security professionals and researchers is that it is still the current standard. Not to say that it doesn’t deserve scrutiny or criticism, or that other projects aren’t important to develop.
I don’t run my *arr stack on Yunohost, but I’m sure it will make them all accessible ootb. You will probably need to point them to one another where necessary from within their web config. For example, sonarr will need to know where your torrent client is. So in your sonarr config you’ll tell it that qbittorrent (or whatever) is at localhost:1243 (or whatever port qbittorrent is running on.
You can install Yunohost on your home server. I’ve been running it that way on various machines for years. It’s just built on Debian Linux. I love it, and find it way easier than Docker. That said, you will be limited to the apps available (have a look at their catalog) in comparison to Docker. If you vibe with Docker then power to you. It has some good features. One more option I’d like to mention, specifically for the *arr stack/media server is Swizzin Community Edition. It’s another non-Docker, super easy setup. Also, don’t be fooled: you can install it locally too :)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Password manager woes. How have you solved syncing on Android?English
1·2 months agoI’ve had that happen though rarely. In those cases it’s been easy to manually merge the one or two entries if necessary.

2·2 months agoI had a server that would lose internet connectivity approximately every 36 hours. Could never figure out why. Ended up running a script every 2 min or so to check connectivity. If it failed, then it would trigger a reboot.

2·2 months agoI think it clearly is helping. Signal is a mature, polished project. It is first-class. The infrastructure is obviously well-funded. As for other projects, I also wish they had more money but I don’t think it’s useful to criticize Signal for the fact that they don’t.

3·2 months agoI agree that’s quite a lot of money. I’m not sure what if any the cap should be. I guess my attitude is that if they are bringing in so much money, and everyone working there is getting a fair cut… then power to them? I don’t donate either, though I’ve been using Signal since before it was called that. I remember when they first introduced calling as a companion app called Red Phone.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•A newbie's guide to self-hosting with YunoHost. Part 4: backupsEnglish
2·3 months agoI have used (and loved) Yunohost for a long time, and I host it at home. A few years back, I did set up a vps to proxy the traffic (over wireguard) so that I could actually get a letsencrypt cert. Some apps really don’t like self-signed certs.
Damn, you’re right. That sucks.
As long as it isn’t “carrier locked”, you should be good to go. The thing about Pixels, is that they allow you to unlock the bootloader (and critically, for Graphene, relock it).

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Washington Post Raid Is a Frightening Reminder: Turn Off Your Phone’s Biometrics Now
2·3 months agoYes maybe, but. Is that any more or less convenient than a pin/passcode? Also, the most cursory surveillance prior to arrest will note the strange way you unlock your phone.
The political aspect of this writeup is so unnecessary and stupid. How can anyone be dismissive of the idea that Iran is under cyber-attacks? They are facing modern, full-spectrum warfare. Controlling the flow of information in/out of their country is a rational act given the situation.
