Honestly having kids or not doesn’t make a huge difference since most countries are below replacement already anyway. Not like it’s normal to have 3+ kids anymore even if you do have kids.

science@lemmy.world•The nose knows: Electric schnoz can smell when your food’s gone badEnglish
3·1 month agoHonestly, this is a really cool result. Since it’s a prototype I’m sure it’s wildly expensive right now, but eventually it’ll come down in cost that you can buy sensors like this for cheap. Rather than throwing stuff away once it’s past the expiration date, you now would wait for a positive sensor hit instead. Would really reduce food waste which is a huge problem.

science@lemmy.world•This insect was trapped alive for 30,000,000 YearsEnglish
3·3 months agoI guess the question is, what distinguishes a “dead” cell from a “live” one if it is not in decay? What makes this Mantis impossible to revive?

10·3 months agoReal question: if the amber prevents the mantis from decaying, and its cells are still intact, is it actually dead? Do we know that for sure?

12·6 months agoI think it’s more that a company now knows you attended that bar, and everything about you listed on your license. I went to a bar a few days ago and they scanned my ID with some mystery app, undoubtedly selling that info to someone.

0·7 months agoIf RSS feeds are being killed, should I really spend the effort to invest my time into setting them all up? Do major news sources like NYT, etc. still plan to have them up and running indefinitely, or are they about to take them down?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why I Ditched Spotify, and How I Set Up My Own Music Stack | LeshiCodesEnglish
4·11 months agoYou have to consider that most musical acts are NOT solo acts. Split that $5k a month between a band of several people and it’s not livable anymore. I think you have to be up in the several million listens range to have it be “livable.” That also assumes you maintain that level of interest indefinitely.
