Glassdoor Wants to Know Your Real Name

Anonymous, candid reviews made Glassdoor a powerful place to research potential employers. A policy shift requiring users to privately verify their real names is raising privacy concerns.

I’ve never used Glassdoor but I know people who have. Seems like a great way for them to destroy their own business.

Even if I were inclined to do so, I would absolutely NOT do so if I had to provide my real name. They will be the one company to never ever get their user db hacked/leaked, right? I can trust all current and future executives there to safeguard that info, right?

I can’t see how anyone with legit negative things to say against a current employer is going to feel comfortable using the service going forward. When enshittification bites back!

The problem is that the names weren’t provided by users to glassdoor. If glassdoor stumbles across someone’s real name then they have automatically attached it to the user profile. They’re doxxing their users so now people have to worry if they ever used the service.

It’s 100% calculated. The controllers of glassdoor decided to kill the site, likely persuaded with money, coercion or both.

Don’t you already need your company email for verification? Mapping company email to real name is obviously trivial for your employer…

No way! I’ve met 6 other John Does lately!

Of course, my name is Jonathan Jacobian Djengle, I was adopted by the Heimerschmidt family. You can call me John.

Glassdoor always seemed like a trap to me. What better way to find (potentially) disloyal people to add to the in-house blacklist or layoff file than to set up a site where you can collect negative reviews of workplaces and sufficient data that identities could be ascertained?
