I know for me personally, its worth the time to set things up myself since I usually learn something new along the way. If you don’t care about the learning aspect and just want the finished product, paying someone else is probably a good idea.

My understanding of Whatsapp’s data collection is that since the messages are encrypted, Meta “only” profiles you using metadata. If you use a matrix bridge to communicate, they would lose out on data like how you interact with their app and when you open it as well as location data but would still get to know when and who you send messages to.

I currently run DivestOS on a oneplus 6 and it’s pretty slick with mull for web browsing and neostore for apps.
I daily drove a Oneplus 6 with PostmarketOS for a few months. While it was very cool and gave me a bunch of freedom compared to android, I missed things like always having proper mobile UIs and a working camera. It is my understanding that the fairphone 4 is in a similar state of support, if a bit worse. Can recommend it though if you like using linux and don’t need banking or a camera from your phone.
A download manager I found to work well generally was aria2c. Only really worth it if you are on linux but it is simple yet powerful.
Interesting. I usually will use the measuring tools as a sanity check to make sure I did not mess up before I spend an hour printing. Most of my projects are mostly composed of primitives and boolean modifiers so I can usually put my dimensions in the panel that appears when you create an object.
