  • This is why I belive listening to what someone tells you they believe is not a waste of time, because you can then convince them otherwise.

Ok but like… How many people will actually change their mind?

I’ve resorted to understanding their psychology. Like what assumptions are they not communicating when they share opinions? What life events pushed them to have a fearful/optimistic outlook? And then I tell them “it makes sense why you would feel this way” which sorta invites them to reconsider without being like “hey why do you think dumb things?”

  • Nobody inherently believes anything. They observe the world as they grow up, they listen to the things their parents and friends say, they listen to music and the media. We all are influenced by the environment around us and then we have the balls to say “I’m an independent thinker”.

I think listening to whatever someone tells you they believe is a waste of time. They don’t hold fast to principles. It’s some combination of regurgitating the environment back and reinforcing pleasurable experiences and removing painful experiences.

  • This is a hard one to distill into a quick catchy phrase. Your opinion of yourself matters, but how your actions affect other people also matters. There has to be a balance between your self opinion and how other people feel about your actions.

“Fuck the haters” philosophy only creates enemies and we should strive to build connections. But at the same time you shouldn’t be slave to other people’s opinions. There is a ton of nuance to this topic.
