  • Beautiful article thanks for sharing.

This highlights the problem that inherently exists in nature: feedback loops.

Repeated exposure to similar information or signals amplifies/entrenches existing patterns and can lead to distortion, narrowing frequencies, and reduced adaptability.

Its why these people turn into racists, sexists, abusers, etc. they get what they want all the time simply because they have money and power and know how to game systems. So they learn on those narrow pathways that they get what they want when they want.

They learn a reality that doesn’t exist for the greater whole because they themselves are not living as the greater whole does. None of this is rocket science.

I have to conclude that Extreme wealth threatens the stability of our society. Not arguing for communism or anything else. Every path has its hazards and shortcuts. Just pointing out problems and opening the floor to discussion of the problem and potential solutions

  • I get what you mean, to live under a system which has requirements, means you must meet those requirements.

However to be stuck in that mindset perpetually is a sickness. There reaches a point where you must say, this is enough. I am comfortable and those that I’m responsible for/care for are provided for when they need it most. We have to stop ourselves and reassess our condition to determine if we’re straying too far. Human psychology has plenty of vulns and desensitization/growing too comfortable is most definitely one of them.

Greed is a pretty globally held sin in most religions and appears to be a fairly objective vice imo. I think too many people assign value to salary and materialistic things - but the reality is that you may be infinitely more valuable to a smaller company that pays you say 60k max than to a company that’d pay you 100k and could afford more but will just as soon lay you off because they think they can just buy more people. Value != only how much you make

  • Could be. However, the point stands, you’re gonna get what you pay for in the end. Not trying to be a dick ofc, but that’s the reality.

There are some well performing options that are free, but they are limited, and not too common imo

If anyone does have some good options, feel free to share as I may be unaware of them and think learning about them would be neat

And you got what you paid for, no?

I believe there is a free version as well but don’t think just because you’re installing Linux that you’re somehow safer.

There was just a package that was essentially socially engineered into by a hacker, who then had full access to everyone’s shit.

All because a GitHub author was pressured into letting them contribute to code. Mac/Apple are no different and starting to be more and more vulnerable as the “security by obscurity” wears off.

Free tools are fine and well, but that stuff is done for free. Including maintainence and everything else. In times like these, ain’t nobody got time for that anymore. People need to make a living and you will see degradation in the products thusly

  • I’ll also toss this hat into the ring - sysmon this is essentially a logging tool thats a bit better/nicer than the windows default, and categorizes all logs into very neat buckets that will make watching out for strange shit much much easier.

Sysmon is part of the sysinternals suite (vetted by the community + microsoft, which is sayin somethin lol) and you can make use this as the config file to use (Uses industry-standard MITRE Att&ck framework) which you can then use to correlate to more threats/malware authors/malware artifacts if you really wanna get your hands dirty/have some fun

  • Here’s probably all the info you could ever need:

    https://redcanary.com/blog/threat-intelligence/raspberry-robin/

Next, you need to get your systems scanned and cleaned. Malware bytes is likely enough, but I always recommend BitDefender. Their efficacy rates are always fantastic, and they have been leading the industry for several years now. Download the AV on a clean system, put on clean flash drive, and install that way.

Last, you’re gonna need to reset your passwords. Yes, I know that’s toxic af. But this is the reality and why we always need to be veeeery careful with what we do. This worm communicates with a c2 server which means it can update itself which makes detection hard, and it also means that, at one point it may have been spying on your activity (and it likely was if not continues to)

This stuff happens, don’t beat yourself up too much. Live and learn

  • Here the funny part, google knew this shit would happen. How you ask? Well, see google has had this problem for a long time.

When google first came out, there was all sorts of techniques you could use to boost your PageRank. Google had to tweak and tweak and tweak to fix it so that nazi sites would not come up when you looked up Jewish holocaust memorial museums for example.

Seems they’ve learned nothing. And yet they’re still one of the biggest tech companies in the world.

Scary. Let’s add AI to the mix now.

  • You’re mixing up topics. The doctor doesn’t want a voice model made after their own likeness based off these private recordings, but I’m saying there’s already a plethora of ways to record you in public that have been around since at least 9/11 in the US.

It’s a moot thing to be trying to dodge/keep private from my perspective. If anyone can record you while you’re speaking in public, you’re not going to convince anyone that you shouldn’t be able to do it in private with consent forms, terms and service, etc.

  • They do pretty specifically mention the using their own voice thing, good point.

However I’d like to remind everyone that recording you while in public is done and done so very frequently (look at all the whistle blower docs) so it’s really moot imo whether or not there exists recordings of your voice.

And everything else I said still stands. Idgaf about the doctor who still goes home with some of the highest salaries in the public. Personally, I think medical practitioners should be a part of working for the state or the govt, and you basically become a servant to the public. Imo doctors should be held to the same public scrutiny but that’s a diff topic.

  • Simple jobs are going to continue to go away in favor of more efficient spending.

You’re not going to get around the removal of simple jobs from the market in favor of newer concepts and more complex operations.

All these people that said going to college to further your education was stupid and a waste of money are going to be the first to bitch and moan because the rest of us who spent the time and money to better ourselves would like to reciprocate that same logic into the world so you don’t have to worry about things like underpaid fast food workers spitting in your food, delivery drivers stealing your food, etc.

Some people who can only do “simple” tasks are the ones who stand the most to be hurt by the world moving forward and becoming more advanced and complex, but I’m not sure what we can do to help them outside of seriously considering UBI. The wealth we are generating and saving through automation deserves to be equally spread amongst the people it replaced. That’s fair.
