Splendid experience. Favorite feature: manage DNS records via API.
You’re not wrong, it’s just about how Proton is built right now. It’s still a pretty young ecosystem.
I will menton that all of their apps (both from GP and F-Droid) work great on my OOTB Galaxy 21 and send all notifications (emails, calendar events, etc.) to my Samsung Gear 3 watch no issues.
Let’s not forget that the point of Proton’s services is encryption. The more points you want it to go through (Proton to Cal{SVC} to Android calendar app to watch), the more you have to relinquish that security if they aren’t cooperative/companion apps.
For example, I use Proton on the web (through Tor, actually) because I get the security. If I used the Bridge, I’d be decrypting a layer just so I could use a favored email application.
Yes, you can, and I would also vouch for Nextcloud.
Interesting. Can you give an example?
You just never use a desktop profile. You have an account on mobile, and every time you go desktop you sign in with the app and qr code so you’re always using the same db on each machine.
My desktop app has zero profiles and no db; I only sign in with my mobile.
Actually, you can scan a qr code and use on both
My router’s admin console, OOTB, gives me the option to either deny individual devices (based on MAC, etc.) access to the external internet, or create a second (or third, etc.) WiFi network that, itself, is not connected to the outside.
Perhaps you have similar settings?
I don’t mind of both devices have to be on the same network. I tried KDE and it just didn’t work the same way I was hoping. Will give it another shake.
I mean, perfect solution would be something like Google Voice where I could use it from any device with an internet connection, regardless of whether there a carrier device that’s even on.
Twilio may be an option (and I have enough programming chops to make my own interface), just want attracted to the (reasonable) cost.
I’ll look into it, but I’m in favor of SMS exclusively (syncing) so I can see all/whole conversations and to just get all notifications and quick-reply to the texts as I get them.
Could you elaborate on how to implement the curl
solution?
For desktop?
Yes, I’m already set up that way. I have a need for others to use my profile but not be allowed in certain apps.
How do you achieve the location spoofing?
Yeah, I’ve seen this before but I just apparently don’t have that option. All I have is “Mobile Data” which appears to leak a little despite being turned off…
I’ve been suspecting I’d need GrapheneOS for a while now. Might finally be time to jump.
I haven’t been able to find this setting. I’ve heard about it on other devices but mine doesn’t seem to have it.
Disclaimer: I don’t have a suggestion for you. Just a thought experiment.
I rate a product/service against a bunch of things, like privacy, ease of use, utility, necessity, etc., and come to an important radio.
I have a similar scenario (very young spectrum child), so I tried this.
It’s gonna be hard to geo track anything without sharing the data unless you can launch your own satellites.
The trigger scenarios (natural disasters, kidnappers, or just general/accidental negligence/happenstance) really feel like fringe cases. While the utility of the tracking in these scenarios would be extremely high, the likelihood of their necessity is incredibly low. Especially given that the caretakers have already been extended enough trust to leave such a precious asset in their unmonitored care, so it may stand to reason that they can be entrusted to react and take care correctly in these cases.
I think the cost to benefit radio is a little off. I totally see the value, I just wonder if it isn’t too much effort/expense.
Seconded!
