I’m the farthest thing from an expert when it comes to programming, etc., but my understanding was that the FOSS end of it is more about which license you use to distribute, and whether or not you provide the code to the public?
I don’t really understand how that would affect the functioning of the app itself. But again, I’m not a programmer so maybe I’m missing something here.

A few months back I decided to fuck around and see if I could get it working in wine, and it seemed to work OK, but pretty jank. Too jank to consider seriously using.
I was having issues with it the other day, and so I pasted the URL into my browser and it would not let me watch past 1 min of any video without disabling ublock.
Needless to say, I didn’t watch the video. I’m done with using YouTube in any official way. If they successfully remove all options for avoiding ads on their site, then I will just never go there again.
I know pretty much nothing about iOS, but isn’t Safari actually considered a pretty decent browser? Can you not use ublock (or equivalent), and other privacy extensions, on Safari?
What do you think the line is? When will it cross over and become acceptable to call it “fascism”? Because we’ve embodied Eco’s 14 features of Ur-Fascism for like 20 years. We now have a de facto dictator who is using that framework to do explicitly fascist things… Where is the line?

Edit: To be clear, I understand why developers respect and listen to Linus… I just think there are fundamental issues with this kind of top-down management of such a colossal project, and the desire to defer to one person seems antithetical to the FOSS philosophy.

If it’s between fascism and communism, the answer is pretty fucking simple imo. Only one of those ideologies considers all people to be equal.
And no, I am not a communist, and I would not choose communism unless it was the only alternative to fascism.
