I don’t know the standard but if Google is involved you know they are going to be pushing people to use their own ‘extensions’ of the standard to lock both the hosts and users into their ecosystem. It’s the same thing as Microsoft’s ActiveX making sites IE only in the early 2000s.
The sites are broken, FireFox doesn’t break them. They make the choice to use non-standard features.
f. Its an app. The lowest form of tech after the clay tablet.
Since when? Boomers will click anything you send them, Gen X think they are too clever to be phished on their XP desktop, and Millennials will give you their entire credit history for $50 off a streaming service. The majority of every generation doesn’t give a shit about digital privacy.
iDevices are a cult. Same as Facebox, Instapot and TicTac.
Did you have a Razor? Best phone I ever had.
Fuck them. Life should be hard for the lazy and ignorant.
[continuously makes life hard for himself]
Dude, I work with a bunch of kids who have_never_owed_a_computer, either an iPhone or iPad from birth until their 20s. Having to explain how to use a computer to some one 15 years younger than me make me want to rip out my rapidly greying beard.
I had bad luck and ended up with a Pixel 2 that was carrier unlocked, appeared to have an unlocked bootloader but was some special Verizon version that did not allow flashing. Fuck you, Verizon.
I wish the “Dark Web” hadn’t turned into shit show, Just looking into it now gets you onto some fuckin watch list but it would have been a perfectly viable place to set up a proper censorship-free web. It also takes care of the user-quality issue by being slightly harder to use than a button that says “INSTALL APP NOW!”
Damnit, I’m boring af. Machines are named by their model for laptops/consumer devices and buy their CPU for home built stuff.
Except for Crimson-Binome.local 🏴☠️
Having just jumped over I might be bottom of the priority list for company communications.
Guess I’m a low-value client.
I might do so as well to avoid the next decade of shopping around.
I know there are other factors it just feels like the only people getting screwed are the little guys. In Canada the rates that third party ISPs pay and charge are dictated by the giant telcos. Our regulating body even allowed the telcos to raise prices to the point where reselling is no longer viable. Fucking the little guys again.
Docker kinda does it by being like an app store but for servers. It’s not very flexible but everyone using a particular image gets the same experience.
Ubuntu has a bigger market share in the support department. Makes it easier to find advice that applies specifically to your setup.
I don’t care if I have to see unobtrusive ads (not overlays, not popups, not unskippable videos) ads help keep many web services free, sometimes I even find it helpful when ads are relevant to my recent searches or the page I am looking at. But having companies build up profiles about me and then share that between themselves is bullshit, that kind of behavior would be treated as stalking if done by an individual, why is it ok for a business?
Google used to be the ultimate engine 15 years ago. Now it’s the same 5 sites and 10 ads over and over.
