  • In the back of the 2014 DMG is a set of tables for generating random dungeons. I thought it would be fun to see how that goes. After spending maybe 6 hours on it across a few days, the abomination I created ended up making DungeonScrawl crash in my browser and be unable to work on it further, but if it hadn’t it probably would’ve ended up like roughly 1/4 of this.

    1/10 do not recommend

  • There’s these d8s that use numerals for 1-8 and pips for 1-4 repeated twice. With three different sets of symbols (say by adding roman numerals) you could have a d12 that also functions as a d6 and a d4, though I can’t say I’ve seen one. Trying to put 3 sets of symbols on each die face may create readability issues though.

I think there’s other dice out there that function as more than one die but I can’t find them atm. There’s also ones that are basically just a fidget spinner with various segments or sets of fidget spinners for each die, but you don’t actually roll those so I’m not counting them.

  • That and the changing every in-game hour. I’m rarely tracking time down to the hour, so it would either slow things down if they try to make any kind of scene out of it, or we’re just going to gloss over multiple changes, potentially making the whole thing moot. Then you get into a dungeon and someone might be locked out of “their” character for a large chunk of playtime.

Tracking who controlled for longer to determine the next level up sounds pretty tedious too, but I guess that would be the players’ problem to sort out, not the DM’s. I would worry that it may be an unforeseen detriment to their enjoyment though.

Not every game has Wisdom saves either, I’m just going off what’s in the meme. If you have an ability that can influence the outcome of your rolls, you should be able to see your rolls to use your ability as designed, assuming it’s a roll that you should normally be privy to the result of and not the DM changing things as shown in the meme.

If a player is abusing knowledge of their rolls somehow, the solution isn’t to fuck with game mechanics for everyone at the table, it’s to talk with that person until you can either get on the same page, or not play together.
