  • It works really well. I’m really hesitant to give up my rear fingerprint sensor. The only thing that doesn’t work is Google Pay/Wallet. I might be able to get that working if I did a little more work, but I use it so rarely that I’ve not given much thought. I’ll be interested to see when/if the 4a gets the bump to Lineage 21.

  • One reason for deciding on which service(s) to pay for is which service do you want sticking around. I can get a wireguard VPN from a number of providers. I like the way Mullvad does things and so I choose to get my VPN from them. One could make the same argument for email from Proton or groupware from Kolab.

  • Take a look at the models that Gadgetbridge supports. Your data stays on your phone. There are no servers to connect to. You should have roughly the same experience on any Android device.

As for tracking sport sessions, look at what each model offers. I use it to sync my PineTime and Mi Smart Band 7.

I really like using the features that Mi Smart Band 7 has to offer AND knowing my data stays on my phone instead of going to servers in China.

Caveat: Recent Amazfit/Mi devices have needed you to set up the device in their proprietary app first to generate a pairing key.
