That’s true, but tbh I only know about it because chat gpt put me onto it. I asked it how to access jellyfin outside my home and it told me tailscale and explained how to set it up pretty easily.
I set up tailscale for remote access and it was pretty easy and painless. Maybe not as “average user” simple as plex, but no harder than setting up lan games to play across the internet that non techy people were doing in my high school 20 years ago.
It’s because paying isn’t the issue. I’m not rejecting streaming on the basis of price (though, the current price of paying for even a couple at once doesn’t help), I’m rejecting it on the basis of it being a fractured, inconsistent and lacking service that fundamentally acts against the interest of its users. If a streaming service offered the same things stremio+debrid does I’d happily pay 10x the price.
People used to pay others for burnt DVDs and CDs back in the day if they didn’t have a pc with a burner themselves. Same thing really.

My assumption isn’t that they’re all fixed, it’s that any particularly bad ones would be known about so I know to avoid it or not. Which appears to be the case.
I would imagine its harder to argue you don’t condone your users using it for piracy when you have a feature that automatically does stuff very closely related to piracy. I’m not going to get into an argument over whether it’s defensible legally or not, but it makes sense to me that they play it safe in general.

So they were allowed to surveil you for any other reason, even if you were trans or gay? Because in that case this changes nothing.
I find it hard to believe any given post would have enough information to link it back to a specific person when viewed in isolation. Even “I’m Mary and going to visit my friend Sarah in New York City.” isn’t going to tell you who that belongs to if the profile and history itself is gone. It would have to be ridiculously detailed and all contained within a single post to actually reliably point to a specific person.
Containing personal information in general and even having an AI spit it out (which good luck, that’s not really how LLM work unless there’s something SUPER niche that essentially only you have spoken about) isn’t enough to say it isn’t anonymized. You also have to show it could specifically be linked to you by other people, in other words, that it can be de-anonymized.
GDPR permits anonymizing data instead of deleting it, provided anonymization is irreversible. They’re keeping it one way or another. They don’t need to know who the data belongs to to feed it to an AI.
Perplexity already runs a US copy of it.
Disagree, if every user of these 10 apps did this it would end up a lot better for them all than every user choosing their favourite and giving them $50. If they choose randomly it would end up roughly the same, but in general people are going to end up skewing towards certain apps over others when forced to choose a favourite.
And if doing it randomly ends up the same as splitting it on a large scale, I think this is the more sensible approach personally.
Sure but it falls apart when an asshole gives them a dollar change instead of a 20 and they fold it as a 20. Any system relies on having trust that the system was done correctly as you can’t verify.
