I agree with you. If I weren’t already paying for other services, I wouldn’t be able to tolerate that.
Since July 2018, with version 8.2, Ghostery shows advertisements of its own to users
Damn. I’m a bit surprised it’s labeled “recommended”
Grammar Nazis are about as helpful as those tiny biting gnats that never go away, even if you spray for them
I was hoping I wouldn’t see so many here because I had my fill of them on r*ddit
We share Personal Information about our users with third party advertising companies, including social media companies, so they can learn about the kinds of audiences that use our products and display advertisements for our services to them and users similar to them.
We may use Ad networks such as Google Ads and Meta and their associated tracking technologies to help display the Permission Slip ads you may see on other apps and websites, and to help us manage and optimize our advertising efforts. To opt out of Google Ads, you can visit Google’s Ad Settings page. To opt out of receiving behavior-based ads from Meta, you can visit Meta’s ad settings page.
Hard pass on this one
I’m not a tech person, and I’m currently using a SearXNG instance
I’ve thought the same thing, and I’ve concluded there must be a significant percentage of people who use search engines in a completely different way than I do. Like my dad saying to his tablet, “Ok google, play [song from the 1960s].” If people think this is what a search engine is supposed to do, then I imagine a search engine that actually behaves like a search engine would be pretty disappointing.
Finally, I see another Mojeek user!
Gen Y often talk about “responsible ads”. Or threads about “devs need to get paid (through intrusive ad platforms)”. It’s… exasperating. I got a notification on my Android phone to configure topic reporting for apps a few days ago.
I’ve been lectured about “stealing” content by not subjecting myself to ads, like what? The corporate brainwashing is real.
NewPipe has worked pretty reliably for me throughout all that. I did notice LibreTube required switching instances a lot more often (which is actually why I switched back to NewPipe).
Hopefully, they’ll be able to keep things working. If not, YouTube’s never been much more than a fun novelty to me, so I wouldn’t miss it too much.
I use NewPipe + SponsorBlock on Android, and I let Libredirect direct YouTube links to a working Piped instance. Sure, sometimes instances don’t work or go down, but I’ve not seen any signs that it’s on its “last legs.”
Oh, I see. Best wishes.
I hope so too. Since it’s the weekend, I’d try emailing whoever is in charge right now for your own peace of mind. I’m almost 100% sure they’ll take them down, no questions asked.
I used to teach high school and have an advanced administrative degree. I highly doubt any school staff would think less of you for this, unless they’re exceptionally shitty people. I hosted some activities where pictures were taken, and if a student had returned later and requested one or more of them be taken down, I would have complied with no questions asked, even if consent had previously been granted by the student/their guardians.
While it’s true that there are some awful teachers and administrators, the vast majority wouldn’t have a problem granting a simple request like this.
Thank you for linking an alternative. I actually like it even more than the enshittified one.
