Because they still want to support embedded video you can still watch using apps from your own IP or download using yt-dlp
Can I use a seedbox to host videos for peertube?
Yeah if you have nothing to hide, what is the problem with spying?!
What’s wrong with Signal: https://github.com/dessalines/essays/blob/main/why_not_signal.md
TLDR: Funded by the CIA, centralized in the US and phone numbers make you personally identifiable.
I imagine just using metadata you can look for people who are discontent, then provides list of those people to the opposition to contact and mobilize them and get them to protest.
Or target them with stories and bots to turn them into a revolutionary force, but that would be more useful for social media networks instead of signal.
Yeah, they failed to communicate it. Which people chose to interpret in the most uncharitable way. “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” - Hanlon’s razor
Misconceptions about Firefox’s Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement – Andrew Moore
Of course people who complain about this loudly are most likely people who block all ads and tracking anyway so it doesn’t even affect them. My ideal would be the total ban of all advertising. Then let the free market sort it out lol.
That would be great. In addition to this, I’d like something that combines bookmarks and something like zotero, so I bookmark something and create a locally hosted web archive. Ideally saving what is already loaded by the browser. So if the bookmark site dies I still have my archive including all images.
Ideally this could also improve coverage of webarchive through p2p.

I don’t have a phone that supports any of the foss android versions but I have been making due without a google account and free app stores (f-droid + obtainium which is great). That will have to do. I’d love much better privacy but it is too much work. I also do relatively little with my smartphone.
Do they require a phone number? I tried to sign up to gitlab (just to post bug reports!) but they required a phone number (which is linked to government ID).
If you don’t need anonymity you could just buy a domain with a single email and use your own email app SMTP. I think it’s cheaper than most email providers.
Unfortunately marketing matters a lot. One single brand is easier to understand than the many federated servers of mastodon.
I wanted to check out where this reddit community migrated to some server with something lemmy. It said something about mastadon so I made an account to try to participate. It wasn’t really clear to me lemmy isn’t another mastodon instance, but a different protocol with some federated synergy. My fault, but the marketing is a bit confusing.
What is the first screenshot from?
I guess any used android smartphone should have plenty of apps. Then you can even have video com
