Fairphone 4 user here, i love it. but ghost touch keeps coming back, i’m on my second screen now.

i daily a Fairphone 4, has neither the best camera nor the best battery life. but it’s the most repairable and durable phone i’ve owned.

i’ve had extremely good experieces with oneplus phones, dunno about custom ROM support though.

i’ve also heard good things about modern motorola phones, if the ROM support is there it’s worth a shot imo.

as long as you save it as a compatible .doc .docx or something, it should work. obviously word can’t open a .odt file.

you can even rotate a PDF without having to pay for a subscription. i’m looking at you, adobe acrobat.

i do already dual boot mint cinnamon edition on my computer, whenever i’m curious i’ll try to run a certain application. and most of the time it’ll work just fine.

i have problems with gaming, mostly. there was a time where fusion360 didn’t work vecause it required edge for login, but i believe it’s been patched.

i use a Trustmaster T300, a stream deck (which is “compatible”), and play some online games with anticheat. i get that there’s a runtime for battleye and easy anti-cheat alteady, but it’s (to my knowledge) impossible to play fortnite.

if i ever bought a laptop, i would install linux no problem. but my use case is in the very early stages of even being possible. believe me, i WANT to use linux. i just don’t want to create too much work passing through usb devices to a VM or rebooting just to play beam.ng.

that’s awesome to hear, my library of play store apps is still quite large and includes a number of games, which likely rely on google services.

once it becomes possible without missing out on much, i’ll switch for sure. i will do the same with linux btw.

for now, i’ll have to wait for the EU to pass more privacy laws.

the Fairphone 4 is supposed to work well without google, open camera even has access to the wide angle camera.

LineageOS, /e/OS, and ubuntu mobile seem to be popular options.

but of course everything google won’t work. that means almost all playstore apps as well. what a lame dystopia this is.

because the other options are living like a caveman, or buying into a walled garden that will fuck you over every step of the way.

i don’t blame you. try to use as many privacy-respecting apps as possible though, once degoogled android becomes mainstream you can easily switch.

one could argue it already is, but many workplaces mandate the use of microsoft or google products. the monopoly/duopoly is real right now.

if the cpu performance and memory capacity is still enough, i’d recommend upgrading the storage. SSDs are reportedly getting more expensive, but it isn’t that bad yet.

running an external drive through some kind of USB 3.X connection would also be possible, although at reduced speed. (won’t matter with a HDD, obviously)
