An open source architecture that implements a reduced instruction Set, in order to simplify design and cut costs. Still in its infancy
Immich! Am still testing it, but it seems to have most features I need, like an iOS client with automatic backups and even server side face recognition ( your server naturally)
Immich. Just found out about it, still gotta try, but looks good, an app that allows you to configure a Google Photos like app locally hosted, with automatic phone backups
You have 4 basic options for funding:
-you rely on individual donations which doesn’t bring in enough money
-you force people to pay for it, which makes it less attractive when compared to traditional software, and makes much of the community pissy
-you rely on corporate money
-you rely on government money
None is perfect, but some amount of government funding (let’s say, 10% of what they would pay Microsoft for the equivalent software) might make sense
Maybe it’ll be governments partially funding it. If Schleswig-Holstein’s attempt is anything to go by, it might be a way
Question, where did you find these?
My bet is that it is a law against porn, and furry porn would be inside that
They’re doing it with chrome users if I’m not mistaken, making popups to use Bing. There was even an apology as the popups were supposed to only be shown once instead of constantly if I’m not mistaken
It’s a neat project. Costs as much as an iPod :P
The issue is that larger companies which could have an impact (Netflix, google, Meta) already have special deals in place that bypass these rules
I now want to become a kernel contributor just so that it would be possible for me to use the copyright excuse too
The question then becomes, how much more users does google have than proton
i personally refrain from brave, because A, those whole crypto shennenigans and what not and second, the browser is chromium based and i use firefox and i haven’t bothered to put brave search yet
I don’t leave in an English speaking country and sometimes the results are not ideal tbh
So is a good search engine. As much as I love DuckDuckGo and daily drive it the results are much worse than google’s
Everything is replaceable if people want to. The problem is the inertia it takes to substitute it
And search
Wanna share my experience too here.
I used YouTube with the algorithm, mostly for educational stuff, like vsauce, kurgsat and tech stuff. I started showing some interest in politics and news, start watching tldr news, then it pulls me into Vox, as I showed some anti trump sentiment. To put it quickly, it didnt take too long for me to realise that I was being drawn to ever more left leaning content (obviously a lot further than merely Vox, second thought and deeper)
Which is why I left algorithmic YouTube by using alternative frontends
Imma wait for someone to fact check this, but holy cow that’s messed up. Thank god I only use thunderbird
Im supposing you want some prebuilt, right?
