Unfortunately, for every one that’s cut down, about 5 more are built.
I don’t recommend more people join in. I don’t recommend those who’ve already joined pick up the pace. That would be wrong. Very wrong. So definitely don’t do it.
A “formal education” mostly involves reading a book. These books can be identified, purchaed, and read without enrolling in any course.
I have a whole shelf full of text books for IT degrees and certifications. Despite never enrolling in any classes, amazingly, the books still allowed me to read them.
The other bullshit is, “news” channels have to abide by rules and regulations against bias and misinformation. Every time Fox News gets sued for something like that, they say, “We’re not “news” we’re “entertainment media”, no reasonable person would take anything we say as fact” to avoid being regulated or held accountable. This was their entire defense in the Tucker Carlson v Dominion Voting case
I usually open a document and type notes to myself. If I followed documentation, I’ll link it and download an offline copy in case it 404s one day. I also export configurations to csv or json and link those.
Something else would probably be better but it works for me and for what I do.
In a perfect world, the corporation is worse because the government is regulated by the constitution and represents the will of the people.
In the world we live in, it’s a distinction without a difference. Snowden showed us all how the US government spies on us. Currently, tech companies do the spying because 1) they’re better at it and 2) it’s technically not illegal because the 4th ammendment only binds the government, not citizens.
