Noise may be something to look for when you’re shopping, depending on where your server lives. I have 1 Iron Wolf drive in my NAS (that is in my living room), and it is way louder than the combined noise of 3 WD Reds next to it.
As for failures, Backblaze publishes quarterly failure reports that I always brush up on before looking for a new drive.

As I’ve started co-DMing the group I’ve also realized that it’s a great way to reinforce the plot points that players may have missed or not seen as important.
I got it from my first DM, and I met his first DM and I think it may have come from him. Who knows who or where it started but I’m happy to pass it on.
The tradition in my group is for a player to do the recap in exchange for an inspiration token (or a hope in our Daggerheart game). Then the DM fills in gaps.

The majority of our household stuff is on a Synology DS920+ (x86). I installed Docker and Portainer on it and then run most of my local services (Immich, Invidious, Alexandrite (the Lemmy frontend), Miniflux, Dokuwiki, and Heimdall) using the Portainer UI.
I’m still running Plex as a manually installed Syno package, because I haven’t taken the time to figure out hardware trans-coding for other setups.
The 920 also manages cameras (via Surveillance Station), all off site backups (we all backup workstations to the 920 and it backs up online), handles private DNS and the reverse proxy for Docker, and hosts my personal VPN. I’m currently in the process of swapping the 4+ year old drives with new ones what will up my capacity (using SHR) from 12TB to 30 (with redundancy).
In one of the games with my group we screwed up getting to a heist so badly that 2 of us ended up downed and the other 3 were facing prison. That’s when our bard decided to use Wish to try to jump us all to a timeline where our initial plan had worked. The DM let him do it and go back to playing the heist itself.
The DM also used it as an opportunity to reveal some lore, and as we transition to the new timeline we got to look in on some others where the BBEG was winning.
This was 2018ish and we still talk about it. Save scumming can be a lot of fun in the right context.

I can sort of see the appeal, but its not for me. If anything is ever going to rename files for me its going to be a script that I’ve either written or at least read top to bottom. Not a blackbox inference engine, and especially not one based on an LLM.
As far as availability goes, Microsoft says that Recall is still undergoing testing. “Recall is currently in preview status,” Microsoft says on its website. “During this phase, we will collect customer feedback, develop more controls for enterprise customers to manage and govern Recall data, and improve the overall experience for users.”
I don’t really like running them, but my players enjoy it from time to time and it always seems to take half a session.
They get itchy when they have too much gold. And a couple of them have taken to collecting t-shirts from the places they visit.
A shopping trip can kill half a session if it’s been a while. Then maybe one of the shopkeepers has a problem that would be worth one of the nicer items in their shop if it were taken care of for them.
I’m in need of a new (to me) car soon and this is stopping me from even starting the shopping process. Now I know I can cross new Hondas off my list of consideration (I can’t stand to have notifications I can’t turn off). But that still leaves a lot research into information the car companies don’t want me to have and which I don’t want to have to do.
Maybe I’ll buy an old Crown Vic. They drive forever and don’t look like any of the cars that local police currently use.

Personally I prefer LARP Concrete. They still don’t lay any concrete, but at least they come to the site to talk about it.
