Well I work from home so I do keep my room dark, I like to have a blanket over my shoulders, it’s not uncommon for me to just be in my underwear… Honestly I’m most of the way there

Okay so the dumb part is a lot of this is me abstracting away our complex build system. I’ve basically bubble-gummed a dedicated build system in top of it for only the tasks I do. At a certain point if I start adding configurations or timing I might as well just wrap it in gradle or something. But the system that I’m calling is already their attempt at simplifying another build system that’s underneath it that was written by the old guard using arcane sorcery. The whole thing is a mess

This is part of why I still have manual kickoffs for mine. Never need to worry about work getting done while I’m away or getting done suspiciously fast. Also they should have paid you lol, the dingdongs. Would cost a lot more just in work lost having someone else spend time deciphering and fixing it. They could always get someone else up to speed with the system after it is fixed by you so there’s little or no down time

Like half of my job is writing .bat files to automate stuff locally and not tell my boss that all I do anymore is double click the right things in the right order…

I like wired headphones it has nothing to do with modernity but the functionality I prefer. I dislike dealing with battery life. Same reason I have a wired keyboard. Also I’ve been in power outages that lasted long enough I wished I had a wall phone to do things like let my family know I hadn’t frozen to death or to call into work to update them so I was less likely to be fired. Me wanting a company to sell wired devices doesn’t affect your ability to buy wireless devices this isn’t a zero sum game, no need to be hostile.

One of my recent characters was your classic racist greedy dwarf. But it was her greed that knew no bounds so the racism part rarely came up because why would they be an asshole to a bunch of adventurers helping them get rich beyond imagining? Why would they be an asshole to the people giving them a ton of money for running around to save the world? It mostly manifested when we’d get minor encounters and I’d suggest we have better things to do than help out these elf randos, or during combat I’d be on top of healing any dwarves but drag my feet just a little for other people. It’s important that your character flaws still function within a group and that you’re not using them as an excuse to force solo play or excuse being a dick irl

And if that doesn’t work your party can set up a side business saving people from rats equipped with eldritch cannons that seem to be increasingly common

I’m partial to the 2e Castle Guide. Aside from some minor parts that book is system agnostic which I’m a big fan of. It also talks a lot about the culture around castles and who is needed to run one

Why is everyone @-ing the same group of people in this post?

The problem here is not about any one persons YouTube habits. It’s that we’ve been pouring so much into it as a group that if it goes away it’ll be torching even more history. The Internet has a bad problem with losing things and it is already making finding old data difficult. This is especially noticable with games or even more specifically mods. Morrowind mods have a long and vibrant history of being lost forever because the hosts kept changing and archives going under. There are many games and mods I played as a kid that are gone now and forums talking about them that are also gone. YouTube is a single point of failure for a ton of video history and losing that history is generally considered to be A Bad Thing ™️

So that’s the plan and I’m not a stranger to doing basic server stuff. For me personally right now though it just isn’t feasible. I’m not in a space where I can handle extra overhead like that and I’m entrenched in a lot of important communications through my old email that need as little disruption as possible. In about a year I think things will have cooled down enough for me to switch

The old versions of blender were like trying to carve potatoes with a fork. You could kind of get what you wanted if you struggled hard enough. It is so much better now a legit competitor for a lot of 3d tasks

Wait Atom has a successor? I did the perfectly normal thing when I saw the sunsetting popup and stuck my head in the sand to gleefully wait for the day it suddenly stops working. I’ll have to check out Pulsar

One of my favorite weirdly specific rules is from Dragon Magazine #10. Where it gives rules for being in an orgy for as many days as you have con points, so most characters can get it on for like 2 weeks straight lol:

Orgies. Fighting Men (excluding Rangers and Paladins), Bards,
Thieves, and all Chaotics (excluding Monks). Lusty indulgence in wine,
women, and song. Maximum expenditure is 500 GP per level per night
(250 GP if recuperating and under 50%). A player may orgy continuously
as many days as he has constitution points, but then must rest
for as many days as he orgied. (For effects on Psionic Powers, see Appendix
II.)
