How might private storage compete with corporate super hardrives for websites? There is the darkweb Wikipedia and internet archive and a decent amount of data on the0 fediverse. There may be a point where megacorps have eyes in the terminal of computers what is the logistics of open source computers with all the components and what would it be like?
Btw When I was very young the megacorps were something cool and I am poor so if I’m the product then it’s fine. Your money went towards better products like the Mac, Imovie and more (at least in perception). but I have an irrational feeling that what was once free in the mid 2010s is now a bucket load of money that since the Russian disinformation campaign and the turn of many companies towards sucking every last penny by charging for what was once taken for granted out of their users innovation has stifled and what was once free is captive.
Nextcloud is pretty straightforward and easy to use. It will ptobably have all the features you need or buy you some time to set up something more professional if you really want.
My main issue with Nextcloud is that the photos app still doesn’t have any way to properly sync on mobile sadly :/ Photoprism at least has a PWA but it’s still not ideal. That’s the main thing keeping me on iCloud personally.
I dont know what you mean? The Nextcloud app works perfectly for me.
It works in a sense that it shows you a list of all your media in the app and syncs photos from your phone to the cloud. But it doesn’t make the features from within the photos app (albums, people, places) available in the app. That doesn’t really compare to Apple / Google Photos sadly.
I think they’re talking about having an app that ties into the photos-related APIs on the mobile OSes, so, for example, when you click “attach photo” in some other android/iOS app, the photos would show up there. Or have a tie in to the camera to automatically upload photos, etc.
Use filen. It’s the best
Filen is really good. It’s had teething problems but they are getting smoothed out. All their apps are open source (the Android app can be installed direct from GitHub via Obtanium if you don’t want to use G Play) and nothing leaves your device(s) without being encrypted. They have a free tier too if you just want to try it out before committing.
Also a lifetime payment option!!! No subscription!!! Filen is awesome!
Filen.io, go for it
Looks good for files, but if you want total replacement of icloud/google/ms services such as contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, and so much more, Nextcloud is best in class.
+1 for filen.
Are there any catches to the lifetime pricing options?
There isn’t. There shouldn’t be in future too. It’s like pcloud but more secure.

Thanx, I didn’t know this one, I am currently using pcloud to sync automatically my photos but filen does it too and better and without trackers.
Also, it has better cloud storage servers. And a better interface than pcloud.
Yes, I love their interface, I tested it and I already removed pcloud for them because I was only using it to sync my photos.
nextcloud for self hosting kdrive for… not self hosting
you may have to use proton drive along with nextcloud
