It’s been so frustrating seeing people on YouTube and wherever who have spent the past 18 months “spotlighting” and “advocating for playing” other systems climb all over each other to praise this move. A move that does nothing but tell 3rd party publishers that they can safely go back to ignoring Shadowrun, Pathfinder, and OSR games.

I don’t think it is the systems. It’s the eye of tye player the issue: DnD is complex (complicated even). Players suffered but learnt it. They want to have another TTRPG but don’t want the same pain. Such TTRPG exist (Fate, BitD, Shadowrun (Hi Anarchy), …). It is just that some players don’t understand the difference between DnD and Any other TTRPG.

It’s like computers and Windows. People may dislike Windows but don’t want to try anything else because it’s perceived as more complex. At worst, it is the same. But they are (in pain) in their comfort zone sadly.
