Nice writeup. One note: I don’t think the Fossify projects are abandoned. The creator has commits on the project as recent as 21 hours ago at the time of this writing. They just haven’t pushed updates to FDroid for a couple months.

On Android, from FDroid you can install an app called Seal, which is a minimal frontend for yt-dlp. I discovered it while trying to circumvent issues Newpipe was having with some update to the YouTube API.
Unlike Newpipe forks, which can use the sponsor block API but not when downloading the video directly to your device, Seal allows you to input the custom flags available from the yt-dlp cli, so you can automatically skip annoying sponsor mentions even on your downloaded videos.
This is even more true if you subscribe to channels using rss feeds from invidious, then simply use yt-dlp to grab the video directly from the URL. You also can use the noscript extension to selectively block the google video script and instead use yt-dlp to download the video. Using this over a no logging VPN like Mullvad prevents google from tracking your IP. Finally yt-dlp not only allows for use with invidious, but has a sponsorblock flag, which will cut out the mentions of sponsors in the video and then paste it back together, essentially autoskipping the sponsor mentions.
On Android, you can download an app from FDroid called Seal that basically uses yt-dlp, and can be customized to use the same flags.
Everyone remember to pollute your answers wherever you post them at least once a day.
Check your location by Searching ”whats my IP address?" Search engines should show it at the top of the results along with your ISP location. If using a VPN, that should show the different location you set it to.
If ONLY Google is showing your true location and your search is showing a different one, then yeah, Google is possibly using a previously known location.
You’re welcome.
In regards to which elements to pick out, I wouldn’t know what to tell you other than monitor the Network tab in the browser’s devtools and block one by one until it works? Other than that perhaps reach out to someone more experienced at generating these filter lists (like the Dev of the linked repo) and see how they go about it.
Cheers and good luck!
Ever since bypass paywalls started getting hit and miss, I’ve been pasting this into my Ublock Origin Filter list. Works well from what I’ve seen.
This is a very uplifting and interesting talk. Thanks for posting!
Really nice. Thanks.
Meh. I’ll stick with local llama and firejailed lmstudio.
As long as Google keeps making Pixel phones that support the installation of GrapheneOS, I’ll still be using at least one Google product. Ironically, to specifically get away from the rest of Google.
I can see this being useful, especially if you could scale the space around the characters (i.e. customize the size of the keys). I also think adding more layers like with smaller ortholinear keyboards might be a good idea as well…
Hmm…gonna have to add this to the things to eventually make whenever I get around to learning kotlin/java for android dev.
Meh. I have a 1px gap for all my windows on bspwm. But I also have no bar at all. I just commit one workspace to a full screen btop on session start.
Am I wasting screen space? Probably…at the end of the day, I feel more organized, but others could easily point out that ideally I’d have 0 gaps and no btop and no bar, and that would be best for organization. Afaic, it’s just personal preference.
I also use Librewolf on Desktop and Mull on Android Mobile. I’m very happy with the setup.
Why stop with Xitter? I personally feel like there should be a national equivalent to the corporate search engines, job boards, etc. National alternatives to everything.
Just installed it. Adjusted the settings to my liking. Very nice. Like OpenBoard, but has quite a lot of extras by comparison. Thanks for the tip.
I personally use both Mull and Vanadium depending on what I’m doing.
I use Mull with NoScript to just browse. If I need JS or need to log in (very very rare), I use Vanadium. This is the compromise I make.
It was an ongoing debate on reddit that came up a couple times. I personally use both Mull and Vanadium. I just use noScript with Mull more for usability than anything else.
I’m not technically knowledgable enough to weigh in on the validity of the argument, I just posted it for those who were wondering why.
Here is a reddit discussion via libreddit where you can read a more at length discussion on it.
And another one.
Just be aware of the supported devices for GrapheneOS, as the older Pixels may not receive updates.
Damn…this looks really good actually. I’m sad to day I never heard of cohost until now. But I’ll admit I just identify with the founder’s sentiments around the tech industry, and their strict adherence to moral values around how a platform like that should interact with their users. I wish their developers all the best in looking for new work.
