Stop giving new people choices! (Quasi facetious)

AI Austin Powers should stfu
Fairphone4 user here. Fairphone is the kind of environment you go into knowing there are tradeoffs (e.g. the camera sucks) but for me, what you gain in terms of privacy and the downright respect they have for you as a customer are worth those tradeoffs.

I’m confused by the goal and the plan. You have to get pre check for your job, but you find it invasive. So you ruin one of the biometric samples they take? Won’t they look at it more carefully? I doubt they will just throw their handd in the air and say fuck it

It’s almost like if you gut the people who know what they are doing you can’t do the things that you want to do
Ask it was llm it is derived from. Spoiler. It won’t tell you
Excuse me. ‘Free Software’ is capitalized. It is a proper noun. Do I need to explain to you the differernce between ‘Free as in Freedom’ and ‘free as in beer’?
I have a fairphone 4 with /e/OS. It’s been everything I’ve needed without being spectacular.
A big complaint is the way you get apps. I don’t add apps often, and often I use adb, but the App Lounge is slow af. I predominately use obtanium to get the apk’s directly. It has F-Droid built in, but if that doesn’t work I use F-Droid proper. This splits my apps into 4 separate bins which I absolutely hate.
The camera also sucks. Stabilization, quality of images, low light, images with motion. They are all bad. Luckily for me, I don’t take pictures of people often. This applies to most camera apps. The default camera app has been patched to eliminate some of these problems, but I haven’t applied it. I’ve heard past the fairphone 4, these problems have largely been fixed.
What could be a dealbreaker for some is something I haven’t verified nor use. (If this is important look into it. I don’t want to spread rumors) The voice typing on the default keyboard now has/will have telemetry. Potentially to Google? I understand Murena needs to make money, and it isn’t personally a dealbreaker, but it is opening a door to other privacy violations. Many people in the community see this as unacceptable and once you’ve violated trust, you never get it back. For me, I’ll hang in there until I see a more substantial reason to switch (same as Proton, but leave me alone about that)
Those are all the negatives of the Fairphone 4 and /e/OS I can think of, but there are many other positives that imho outweigh the negatives. And depending on where you are coming from (e.g. google/samsung android or ios), you have to realize that with phones like the fairphone and roms like /e/OS there are large pros, but there are often large cons. Here, I’ll gladly accept those for what I’m getting in return.
LMK if you have other specific concerns. I might have just left them out. There are also ways I better secure my privacy, but you didn’t ask about that 🙃
Running Open Source models locally will give you the same quality of results as using a website. The tradeoff is the speed.
To get a response from a 70B model can take 5 minutes. I stick to 5-15B which gets you speed you are used to.
That works perfectly fine for me as I typically just need code snippets or a fancier thesaurus.
So this is the line? Renting?
Saying you don’t care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

Something meant to maintain a high or low temperature. A Thermos or pizza delivery bag or a bag for bringing frozen groceries home. Some might just be foam, but there are also ones with metalic coating or a steel shell.

I like the design, but a few suggestions:
You don’t need to cross the google services out. It is already in red indicating it is ‘bad’. The replacements with a green background indicated those are ‘good’
Make a ‘table of contents’ with an enumerated list of the services. The numbers on the list should be repeated next to their coresponding services.
In the ‘table of contents’ and the coresponding boxes, the google services headings should be larger. They are after all headings.
All of these suggestions are for readability and easy of use. 2 and 3 in particular are for people looking for a particular thing. Say I’ve already replaced gmail but not google drive. If your goal is just to replace google drive skimming to just find google drive makes that harder.
Overall, this is the best one of these I’ve seen.

Is that an impressive number?

It’s to hear the screams of people burning alive

What are you looking to track? Also, don’t worry if you don’t know how to self host, that’s what the community is for 🙂
mpv, imv, zathura, ffmpeg, imagemagick, pandoc, yt-dlp, yazi/ranger, curl/wget
I realize many of this don’t strictly conform to the suckless philosophy. (which is meme imo). They more loosly follow the UNIX principle: Do one thing and do it well. I would have added emacs, but why emacs follows the unix principle is an argument for another time

So is the EFF and the FSF, but take your comfort where you find it.

If it’s going to be as useful as possible, yes.
Parry and hit back. Ask her why it matters what you use if you can function with them as if you use google. Then return fire with your favorite reason not to use google. For me, I like to open the dev tools in Firefox, and show the head of any website. Let them choose. Find the line with google analytics, google tag service, or google ad sense. “Wow this website has nothing to do with google. Why is this here? To track you. Did you know that google can track your mouse? Even if you don’t click on anything? Or they can track you by installing fonts?” Etc. Etc. Scare the shit out of them and they’ll leave you alone. Hopefully you can slowly begin to convert them.
