Currently, only the Pixel hardware has all the hardware security features GrapheneOS wants. They could support other devices, but then they would have to compromise on security, which is something they don’t want to do. A while ago it was reported that they were looking to partner up with another manufacturer, but I haven’t heard anything about that since.

Privacy@lemmy.world•WhatsApp to launch third-party chat integration in Europe soonEnglish
4·5 months agoMy family will never ditch proprietary apps. It’s either me having to have a complicated setup with multiple phones or profiles in grapheneos to talk to them, or being able to use a third-party app I can be ok with having on my main phone. Even if our communication is not private, I’d love to be able to just not have whatsapp installed in any way. That would be good for me.
I nominated GrapheneOS and also Proton themselves to finally have resources to work on their Linux clients.

5·6 months agoWow, Spain is way ahead of my country (Sweden), we have much to learn. Unfortunately our politicians are not the best at the moment, but hopefully in the future.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Europe's plan to ditch US tech giants is built on open source - and it's gaining steam
15·6 months agoIt seems like backend companies are ready for this, but today, what are the options for individual end users looking to escape google etc? Proton has a package with mail, storage, etc, murena for phones, nextcloud, opencloud, suite numerique, is the industry converging on any standards here like .odt for documents but for other standards and protocols?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Europe's plan to ditch US tech giants is built on open source - and it's gaining steam
10·6 months agoThe good thing about open source is that it’s open, so hopefully it will benefit everyone. Of course, hosting always cost money, but the tech itself isn’t locking you in.
A good thing was also that Germany officially said that “suspicionless surveillance must be taboo in states that have rule of law”. This indicates it’s a firm position and not a flimsy “maybe tomorrow…” position.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•what are your biggest contributions to open source software?
5·6 months agoI wrote a function to display numbers as words in my native language, which has a lot of strange conventions. The lead dev immediately saw that this was my first attempt at Lua, and optimized my code. Thing is, now it’s broken for numbers above 1000000000, but it’s unlikely that anyone will notice and I was too shy to correct the main dev.

0·7 months agoPostmarketOS has a list of officially supported devices. Sadly that list is empty. We can wait but it’s not going to happen by itself. Maybe everyone interested could fund a dev working on getting one device to be officially supported? I don’t know if that would be welcome by the project. My point is, with the current pace, is the goal moving closer or further away?

Mm, depends, do you use a regular 5v charger or those fast charging chargers that take like 30 mins to charge the whole battery while making it quite warm?
how’s the charging on the CMF? Does it work to use usb-c pd?
Gael Duval (/e/os) wrote as a response:
"I’d like to state *very clearly* that Murena and e Foundation are not related in case to this ridiculous and pseudo-drama.
What we seek is to totally ignore these guys, and have nothing to do with them.
And again, and again, despite what they are repeating, we are NOT competitors, as we are not in the hardened-security market spaces."
