Grid scale batteries are only a solution for transients, if that. Actual energy storage needs to be scalable like pumped storage hydro which accounts for 95% of all storage capacity worldwide.

Your microwave is the reason that the child lock thing is now the default. If the door sensor fails and you open the door the microwave just keeps running and blasts your face with liquid hot magma non ionizing radiation.
Smarter companies just use two door sensors and error out if either fails.
The first seconds counter has to run out before the next minute counts down adding 60s to the seconds counter.
So 99:99 is the same as 1:40:39
We don’t need to close the loophole. We need to make it illegal for ANYONE to digitally stalk us and create digital data troves on us. They should be restricted to a narrow data gathering of what we give them for the purpose we give them the data for.
I don’t want corporations collecting and selling data that I don’t trust the government with.
A world where they still do that but the government “isn’t allowed to buy it” isn’t much better than what we have. Worse, it could enshrine their right to gather it.

Yeah, because like all good money it’s backed by a state with a judicial system and a military.
The complete disregard for “purity” is what made English flexible enough to become the defacto default common language of most of the world. Your pursuit of language purity is in fact very un-English.

Basically Google started monetizing it’s semantic matching engine. It’s what made Google results so great. For example if you searched the word “tall” it would include results for “big”, “height”, etc… with each word being ranked by closeness to what you searched.
Well now they made it so they will match monetisable words preferentially, like brand names for example.
It’s likely the main reason Google results have been getting so shitty lately, the semantic match engine is one of the things that made the results great. Now it’s an ad delivery engine and the results are crap.
Remember when Fucking Pearl Jam tried to avoid Ticketmaster because of their scummy shit and even tried to sue them and failed.
Pepperidge farm remembers https://news.yahoo.com/1994-pearl-jam-took-ticketmaster-230031845.html
Ticketmaster isn’t just a front for shitty artists because then artists trying to not be shitty wouldn’t have a problem.
That is literally the opposite definition to scalable. Scalable things don’t require twice the resources for twice the capacity.
Buy two instead of one is exactly the worst case scalability you can have.
95% of the world grid storage capacity is pumped storage hydro and batteries will literally never be able to compete because water is the cheapest energy storage medium we could possibly have at grid scale. North America was the world leader on PSH in the 1970-2000 but now China is eating our lunch and our governments no longer have the ability to start real infrastructure projects because of crony capitalism.
I can’t believe we’re watching China become the world leader in renewables while we pretend like batteries are a smart way of storing GWhs of power because that’s the most profitable solution to the private sector.
