Agreed, but to be fair, retail has been doing this for over like 10 years at least lol. It’s the most common with clothing shopping. It’s nothing new.

They are told to try to convince people to sign up. So they’re going to act manipulative in order to get you to. It’s just part of their job. Just keep refusing and don’t think much of it.
Rooting (assume you meant this by jailbreak8ng) is not required for this process. Only some apps reauire root. Kodi and the youtube adfree apps don’t require root.
But you can just block all the ads on the home screen with pihole. Then you can still use the native TV apps. It’s a win-win.
If you turn off Internet access then your parents can’t stream.
This is untrue. You can use Jellyfin or Kodi natively on LG WebOS on the TV and stream whatever you want locally. You have to grab it from the homebrew channel or sideload it. It’s a little bit of a process though. Nothing crazy. But it works!
Edit: you can also get YouTube without ads off Homebrew.
Lemmy has some sort of slander campaign going against Signal. Can’t tell if it’s just misinformed idiots or a paid shill smear campaign being run here (likely the former, Lemmy is too small for companies to give a shit about.) It’s really annoying. Same with Mozilla and Firefox. Not sure Lemmy likes anything?
Fair point. I agree.
Is this a serious question? There is NO WAY to use Meta products privately. Private Meta is literally an oxymoron.
I’ve used govee stuff before and it absolutely did NOT require an account. Just the app. Are you sure you have that right?
You can’t do anything besides the usual precautions. I get a notice of a data breach in the mail like every 3 weeks from companies who got hacked. It’s fucking ridiculous. My social security number has probably been leaked like 900 times. All of ours has
All you can do is:
There is definitely an anti firefox agenda on Lemmy. I can’t tell if it’s just people circlejerking FUD news or if it’s paid shills, but something is definitely going on. I’m about to unsub from these communities because it’s just constant bullshit.
Was there any controversy with Proton email? I remember hearing everyone shitting on it ywars ago. Did they do something to piss everyone off, but later fixed it?
Kodi isn’t for streaming from services like netflix and YouTube. It’s used to stream offline video files over the local network.
Thx for confirming! Sounds good.
You forgot to explain what this does?
Pihole is your friend.
Fair enough. I completely agree that the feature creep is concerning and aggravating. I think it comes down to them trying to grow adoption of the browser and services. Mozilla has like a 1% market share. I’ll still use it over chrome or edge. At least we can disable all the bullshit in about:config or just not sign up for the extra services.
Is this a shitpost? I’m confused as to how they’d verify if your accounts are compromised without knowing your basic info.
Well I just tried it on 3 browsers and 2 mobile browsers and they all say i have to be a paid member to read the articles. I’ll watch the video then but I much rather read.
Same. I also checked the data usage on my phone and google authenticator has used NO mobile data since I’ve had it installed for over a year. So I’m calling bullshit on this article.
I also do not see nearly as many permissions requested as in that screenshot. It needs photo and video permissions because you can upload qr codes and stuff. Also you can (don’t have to) link it your google account, so obviously it would have access to your google stuff.
