  • I never had 95, my family couldn’t afford a PC back then. But getting out families first PC running Windows ME and spending so many afternoons trying to fix it is that got me into IT support.

Moving to Windows XP was a huge step up and moving to Windows 7 was another step up.

Microsoft has never ever made an OS as good as Windows 7.

7 and XP are equal until in XP you try to drag a full screen window and cannot.

I’m on 10 LTSC IoT and I think (Thanks to people on the Linux sub) I’ll be moving to Linux mint Cinnamon.

  • I have been told I am complaining too much about my company moving to windows 11 and that I need to grow up.

I will then watch those same people slowly but surely start to complain about changes and things not working. I got laughed at today for fighting the updates and windows 11 by a few people who are probably going to be made redundant by this change. (I’m not angry, making people laugh and being a loudmouth idiot is my favourite thing)

I have been in IT support since 2007 and I know that all the change is bad.

My personal computer is on Win10 LTSC IoT and I’m moving to Linux Mint (Thankyou to the people on this forum that recommended it).

Change in tech can be good but not when it’s Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and HP making the changes.

  • Twitter is a weird place. I didn’t start living and enjoying my life until I was in my 30s You can ask about my life as a teenager and a young man in his 20s and you’ll be bored out of your mind with how much complaining I’ll do.

Meet me now and be annoyed that I’m a giant dickhead who is completely full of himself, avoid me 15 years ago when I was a giant severely depressed guy.

  • I’m 37, I’ve been in IT support for 15-17 years. I have used AI about 6 times.

First time: I told Chat GPT to be sarcastic and snarky with me then drunkenly argued with it for 15 mins.

Second time: I got chat GPT to recommend me power metal bands based on the list of bands I told it I liked… It gave me 20+ and only two were any good.

Times three to six: using my companies forced Microsoft Copilot, It made me some ASCII pictures of ducks then refused to sing The Simpsons song where Troy McClure is in planet of the apes and I started with “I hate every ape I see from Chmpan-A to Chimpanzee” because “noo not copyrighted music” Finally it ruined a Futurama quote when I said to it “Have the boy lay out my formal shorts”.

I was told today copilot needs me to go into it’s settings and tell it what I want.

I will probably go into that next week and say “I just want to quote the Simpsons and Futurama, don’t correct my spelling or punctuation just quote it back to me”

  • My company is moving to Windows 11, I had one of my service desk teammates tell me that for an IT support person I’m very critical of change

Before Windows 11 I was critical of change because every change came with no new training for my team and a giant email to the company explaining very lazily about the changes and with the same text at the end of every email… “Any problems call the service desk”.

Now we’ve lost active directory… Now I’m in a position where an incredibly incompetent IT security have restricted our access to intune and Entra and then the business wants me to still perform my daily duties as normal.

Upside is that same IT security is getting removed in the next few weeks.

Probably to be replaced by someone else even worse.

I just want to learn how to use Entra and Intune… Everything Microsoft touches turns to shit.

Active directory just worked… It was built when people at Microsoft actually knew how the operating system worked… None of those people are still at Microsoft…
