  • Building a NAS in this day and age is trivial. Hard drive space is cheaper and far more economical than paying $20 a month for a service. The way prices are going it’s going to soon hit parity with car payments.

I had an old PC from 2012 with an i3 dual core in it. Ran a headless Linux server. Raided the 2 3TB drives. Done. It was replaced by a 4 TB SSD and since those have nowhere near the failure rates of HDDs, one and one. It servers files off my main computer which is a beefy Mac.

Enabled file sharing. Opened the port on my firewall. Done. It’s one of the easiest services to offload to a homebuilt rig.

  • Isn’t Sony far worse than Google in locking you into their platform and basically stealing your data? They gutted Helldivers and thru all their players under the bus by adding a PSN account requirement retroactively, even in countries that didn’t have the service. They only backpedaled because of the massive negative backlash. They have a history of installing root kits and treating their customers like absolute trash. And you want to go with them?? Yikes.

You are way better off getting a Pixel and then liberating it with Graphene.

  • iCloud Keychain. Has the ability to store 2FA codes and pull them up automatically. GitHub also supports passkeys so most times I just log in with my biometrics or user pass and don’t have to worry about the added layer.

I’m fine with regular 2FA. What I can’t abide is having to use proprietary apps, like Blizzard’s battle net. Steam too.

Passkeys are the future but still a ways off.

Wild tho that you don’t have any other accounts needing 2FA? That’s scary to me as that added security goes a long ass way in regards to hardening your secuity.
