Ah, they just opened up the ability to connect devices to an account. I have it on my tablet and phone simultaneously. The tablet only fetches messages when I open the app though. Not sure if that’s intended, or something about my device, and I actually prefer it to notifications on both anyway; which other messagers do on the same devices.

I’m not sure how it would work on separate profiles on the same device though. If it’s one account, it would seem strange if it did work fully since they’re both linked to the same number/account. Two accounts might work, I dunno

As an actual usable service with feature forward apps? Signal. But I prefer the relative discretion of matrix. I like more layers between me and the rest of the world in my private communications

Eh, when it comes down to it, my concern isn’t country of origin, per se.

Since my concern is about the company making an item, and how shitty they are, you’d have to dig up some serious numbers to show me that a given Chinese company is significantly worse than a company from elsewhere, or that there’s a proven issue where the hardware had known vulnerabilities introduced by virtue of being Chinese in origin.

Both of which are entirely possible. But until I’m actually shopping for the hardware, I have way too many other things that I have to pay attention to to give a flying fuck, so this hypothetical is a zero fucks given for me. China isn’t inherently worse than any other country. It’s got flaws and virtues as they all do. Buying shit from any given country is picking exactly what flaws you prefer.

Yeah, the only issue is that any profits from paying for their service will eventually line the person’s pockets. It’s not like the company is directly doing it, or spreading the bullshit.

I don’t hate them, but damn are they pushing beyond what any one company should do. The only way a one-stop shop should be used at all is if it’s a very well structured, open side law source non-profit. Even then, I’m not sure that biting off as many things as proton is trying to would be for me.

It’s possible to get around, but then you hate to be completely passive and not change anything in how you got it done, because even just switching to a different but new device triggers a check by their automation, and it usually just bans.

Only one I’ve found bearable in a post-Swype world is heliboard.

Two caveats. First, that you have to do extra work to enable glide typing. It isn’t difficult, but it’s not something you would automatically think to do.

Second, that it’s suggestions are kinda crap lol. It’s good at picking up the glide input, but the suggestions it pulls up when it doesn’t are sometimes batshit lol.

You know, what really surprised me was how natural it came. I’m not saying I didn’t make mistakes, or that everything worked the way I thought it would. It’s that whether I had a plan for a session, was winging it, or was crafting long term setups that didn’t pay off for months, it flowed for me.

Reading my players, adjusting to the vibe of the table, switching things on the fly, it wasn’t a struggle.

Mind you, that’s my first campaign. There was a little bit of struggle learning d&d as a whole, and that learning curve meant the previous adventures were clunky as fuck all because I was just wrong about a bunch of stuff. Thac0 alone was a huge factor. But once I grasped the rule set, making my own campaign and running it felt as natural as breathing.

What’s hilarious to me is that you’d have to have a mod to make this work effectively in bg3. Or at least multiclass into monk, which makes little sense when you confused consider that fighters are kinda known for tactics like that, and there’s a lomg standing tradition of punching a motherfucker when a weapon attack fails, or even using a weapon attack to set up a punch (or kick) in many martial arts that have a weapon focus

I mean, it is the alpha. D&d is the root of ttrpg. Didn’t have to be, there were other things that could have been. And it wasn’t the true first stage of that became ttrpg; it was built on other things.

But you gotta be realistic and admit that d&d as a “thing” is the single best known, most successful system out there. It is what it is.
