  • It boils down to two broad categories for me:

    1. How locked down the OS is on iPhones and iPads. We’ve seen recent progress (Safari extensions, retro console emulators), but we’re still far from a serious OS. iOS still lacks a proper file management system (especially for playing back local audio) and no side-loading is still a deal breaker.
    2. Obscene markups for easily accessible parts. Apple still believes 8GB RAM is worth $200, and they believe 1TB storage is worth $800. I’d rather just get something with replaceable RAM and storage.

  • I currently use a 2021 Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition and I really enjoy it. It’s a bit pricey at $1650 MSRP but it comes with a high end all AMD 5900HX, 6800M, 2 SoDIMM slots, and 2 M.2 slots. Plenty of ports: 3x USB-A, 1x USB-C, Ethernet, HDMI, headphone jack, and power jack; I’ve needed all of them and it’s just enough. Quite good battery life for a gaming laptop and supports USB-C charging. I currently dual boot Windows and Ubuntu. Biggest flaws are the preinstalled SSD is crap and there’s no webcam.

  • Glassdoor is in my top 10 least favorite companies of all time, right behind Nestle and Big Oil, scoring an overwhelmingly negative opinion by me, meaning that I wish they would crash and burn and I’d be willing to sabotage this sh*thole company wherever possible.

This business is everything wrong with 21st century tech companies. They do nothing good and everything bad. They hide information from the public by forcing an account. You cannot bypass by using uBlock origin’s features. When you make the account, they force you to give them literally all of your personal information with zero way to stop them from selling it to hundreds of shady data brokers despite them telling you that you can opt out.

Unfortunately, they got me. I really really wanted to find the salary of a job, and I was forced to make an account. I got irrationally angry, and gave them EVERYTHING, including all cookies. Now they got the loot, I got nothing other than a thousand eyes prying on me.

The door is certainly glass on the bathroom stalls but made of hard steel to reach what should be a library.

    1. I want it to be internet accessible. A friend taught me how to use nginx for the local network, although I’ve forgotten that now.
    2. My previously mentioned computers are computers I don’t use that much, especially the old laptop. My main computer is a 2021 ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition. I won’t be hosting from that.
    3. Private networking is just hosting over a LAN, right?
    4. Does Docker work well on old hardware and is Docker easy to learn?
    5. I have the most knowledge on Ubuntu based distros. I don’t think Manjaro, a bleeding edge rolling distro, is good for hosting.
    6. How do I use let’s encrypt or something to boost my security?

  • I tried it, but it’s not good.

    1. I searched for best motorcycle and got lists of best motorcycle accessories.
    2. Then I searched for best motorcycle twisties, and got one gem of a website about some nice roads in WA but the rest of the results were unrelated to roads.
    3. Then I searched for best motorcycle twisties in my state, but got “best mountain bike trails,” and some more unrelated sites including a site about porn sites.

If I’m getting porn-adjacent websites when I search for the best twisty roads I’m never gonna use your search engine no matter how much I hate the alternatives.
