My issues with OSM is a lot of missing information and incorrect roads.
I found the opposite to be true. There were whole sections of a few towns I have been in that had been built up quite a while ago, but google did not update them. I was surprised because enough people still use Google’s purchase of Waze to fill in the gaps. Apparently not so many were I have been.
I can see your point. It is so ingrained in me to use a phone I forget that we didnt always do it that way. I shouldnt make the assumption everyone has a phone.
What’s hard about signal? It’s easy to use, my friends and family aren’t tech savvy and they were using it in minutes and it has stuck ever since.
Give it a name that tells you about the features, don’t call it pro. Yuck.
I read through the brief article but I didn’t see anything about email masks (or email aliases if you want to look at it that way). Firefox provides masks, they work well and are useful. I could see thunderbird adding that as part of the subscription service, since Mozilla is already doing it anyway.
Your original post makes it sound like duckduckgo is making you do this. It really isn’t. You have to truly opt in to use it. They do ask you, how often do you want to see it, and you can set a preference.
I think they are in a tough spot because users are going to say if they don’t have it, they are behind and a bad search engine for it. Yet if they offer it, people are going to complain about that.
I think they are trying hard for a middle ground.
That is bullshit. DDG will give you an ai answer, infrequently, and ask if you want more, less, or none. And that is just a result. To continue the AI option of asking follow up questions you have to opt in.
We are fucked for lots of reasons, this isn’t one of them.

So messed up that they too are the scalpers. A band I liked put pressure on them and managed to catch them in their bullshit, but that is rare.
Comaps is the fork, we moved away from organic maps. You will find basically the same experience.
When they say WhatsApp I gotta think that would be the same for any third party conversation app right? I would never use whatsapp, and I would hope any security minded person wouldnt either. But I do rely on an opensource sms launcher and signal. I would assume the framework would make it mess with those too.
This sucks. Horribly sucks. I can’t stand apple products, they cant do anything. I know that even having google play on my android device means I am fucked anyways, but this is a new low from google.
Feels weird to buy a google pixel, only to be able to expect it is the best way to not have google on it. (grapheneos or similar).
How many people use Street Complete to fill in the details with Open Street Map? It is really nice to use on mobile.
When I am in the office, I update Open Street Map during meetings. Gives me something to do, and I can look busy, or keep my hands occupied while I listen.
