Me too, which is just another way of saying there is just no way this will happen. He and John recently turned Complexly into a nonprofit, after they shopped around to sell it and found that all interested buyers would repurpose it to something far away from its mission. science@lemmy.world•The Tick That Hunts Down Its Hosts-Including Us. Lone-star ticks don’t just pursue and bite people. The affliction they’re spreading, an allergy to red meat known as alpha-gal syndromeEnglish
3·3 months agoI’m definitely not one of those, but kind of playing devil’s advocate, you have to acknowledge that the more people there are who can’t/won’t take certain meds/ingredients, the more pressure there is on the industry to make alternatives, and this could be a genuine silver lining in an otherwise really shitty situation.
The whole gluten-free craze created a ton of market pressure to produce good, tasty gluten-free foods. This was genuinely fantastic for people with coeliac disease, suddenly there’s a ton of options for them to eat at mainstream places! The gluten-free movement (no pun intended) may have been dumb, and maybe it caused some harm (did it?), but it definitely caused a significant amount of good, even if by accident.
I know it’s not the same situation and it’s still obviously wrong to be happy with what these ticks do, but you can still take the good with the bad.

11·4 months agoThis title could not look more like an ad. I’m not saying it is an ad (full disclosure, I didn’t even click the link), but if a company is trying to market their new toothpaste with “natural” ingredients sprinkled in, this is exactly the title they’d go for. The title doesn’t even make a single claim of anything new being done.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•HDMI Forum is unwilling to disclose the 2.1 specification for open-source (Linux): according to AMD, they had submitted a functional, HDMI 2.1-compatible driver [for linux?], which the Forum rejected.
46·10 months agoYes, this isn’t new but it’s resurfacing thanks to the Steam Machine. Basically (off my memory), part of your title is accurate: AMD did create a FOSS driver with HDMI 2.1 which does not violate HDMI forum requirements, but the HDMI forum still vetoed it. I don’t know if it would necessarily “disclose the specification” as the first part of your title suggests, but I didn’t dig into the details enough to say for certain.
Basically a dick move by HDMI. Maybe Valve can push their weight on this, we’ll see.

9·11 months agoObligatory nitpick: open weights ≠ open source. For it to be open source, they need to release the training data as well as all the parameters they used in training it.

59·1 year agoYeah that wasn’t a great moment, but if you look at the context for that you’ll see that it wasn’t even talking about a black person. It was just an expletive, like saying “motherfucker” or “son of a bitch” etc.
Keep in mind that outside of USA the N word is not nearly as charged politically and racially as it is within the USA. And PDP is Swedish IIRC, not American.
Edit: my point is that his usage of that word - which AFAIK only happened once - is not indicative of his character. It’s just indicative that he was really angry at that moment and human brains for some reason use expletives in those cases.

47·1 year agoI’ve skimmed the introduction, and it only seems to cite the same Fiverr incident from 2017. I think it only uses PDP to illustrate some point and attract readers, but I’d have to read the whole thing to be sure.

69·1 year agoThat’s not a claim to make without some evidence. There is a thing he did a long time ago on fiverr, and from my POV that does not reflect on his views at all. I can explain my reasoning if you want. Other than that incident, is there any other reason to suspect he’s a Nazi?

4211·1 year agoI have asked a few times why PDP deserves all the hate. The best answer I got is “look it up yourself”. I did, and the only things I found were many years old, and in each instance (of which there aren’t that many) he apologized publicly and acknowledged that things got out of hand. To me, his apologies seem sincere and genuine - none of that “I’m sorry I got caught” bullshit that actual scumbags are known for.
I don’t watch PewDiePie but he’s alright best I can tell. If I’ve missed something, please let me know what that is, and be specific because I genuinely can’t find it.

Edit: If I understand correctly, you use causality in the physics sense, meaning just that something happens after something else (accounting for the speed of light). It seems that in almost all contexts, the two terms are synonyms.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causation?wprov=sfla1 - basically all disambiguation targets assume the terms are equivalent.
